Our Story

The Adelaide Oval Bowling Club was founded in 1902 by twelve civic minded members of the South Australian Cricket Association, soon after Federation.

At the time it was decreed that all members of the new bowling Club either be members or be proposed to become members of the South Australian Cricket Association and wear all white similar to the cricket playing members when playing pennant bowls.

The joint membership requirement with the South Australian Cricket Association no longer exists but the all white attire requirement for pennant bowlers continues to this day.

The original greens and clubhouse were developed in the south-western corner of the Adelaide Oval precinct and this became the home of the Club until it had to move in 2007 to allow for the development of the Adelaide Oval.

Members of the committee of the Club, after much investigation and deliberation, came to a mutually satisfactory arrangement with the Adelaide Bowling Club to relocate to their premises in the East Parklands off Dequetteville Terrace.

As part of that arrangement, our Members then all became Members of the Adelaide Bowling Club. As such, we are privileged to be able to enjoy the same rights and benefits as the Adelaide Bowling Club Members including, all of the Clubroom amenities and, by arrangement, daily use of the three excellent lawn bowling greens, except on Mondays, when the greens are closed for maintenance.

The Adelaide Oval Bowling Club is a Club within the Adelaide Bowling Club.
We maintain our own identity and traditional character. We have our own Committee which manages all of the Club affairs including the organisation of our own Club Tournaments and competitions, our Club Pennant side and all of our Club Social events.
